Irish Life and Lore Series.
“For Generations past, the rich culture, tradition and heritage of Duhallow has been cherished and preserved by the people who live there, amidst the stories, music and folklore of this ancient and beautiful place. This book, written in association with 45 recordings of the wonderful oral tradition of Duhallow, sets the scene with a brief sketch and summary of each recording. From Mass Rocks to matchmaking, from battlefields to sportsfields, from skellig lists to songsmiths - they are all told with great skill, humour and pathos by the custodians of the living past of Ancient Duhallow.
Maurice and Jane O’Keeffe have owned an antiques business in Tralee since 1982, and their interest in oral heritage was kindled originally when Maurice began recording material for an antiques programme on Radio Kerry in the 1990’s. He immediately found that the people he interviewed for the programme were far more interested in telling their own stories than in talking about their antiques.
Book compiled by Jane O’Hea O’Keeffe in association with 45 recordings on CD compiled by Maurice O’Keeffe during 2002-2003 in conversation with local historians, folklorists and storytellers detailing aspects of life in the Barony of Duhallow in days gone by.”
