Author: JOYCE, Stephen H.
Victoria, B.C.: Trafford Publishing, 2004. 179 pages. Illustrated. Paperback.
Steve Joyce was born in Recess in the Joyce country of Connemara in county Galway. At the age of three his father’s work took the family to Tuam in north Galway where he attended the local schools. At the age of eleven tragedy struck which inspired him to write this book. He left Ireland at the age of twenty and now lives in Manchester, England with his wife. They have three sons, two live close to the family home and the eldest in West Sussex. Their sons have made a success of their lives, and there are seven grandchildren.
From his infancy in Connemara, through the tragic deaths of his Mother and Sister within six months, to his cruel treatment at the hands of the Christian Brothers. In spite of many sad happenings the author recalls lots of humorous events connected with his work, and his involvement in the sports of Gaelic football, Rugby, Soccer, Golf, and Boxing, at which he became a champion, and went on to a successful career as coach to a club in Manchester. He was also appointed team manager and trainer of the Manchester and Lancashire boys boxing teams.
